Research
and Development
Applied
research and development occur continuously at PPL. Because solutions to our
customer's problems are not always commercially available,
PPL will make custom material for your application compound of existing resins to make
a new. In a typical case, we successfully improved
the strength of Ryton PPS, beyond the normal limits, to suit
a particular situation. For more help with your project CONTACT

Material suppliers have brought new, untried resins to us
to to be run on our high performance molding machines and
to benefit from our extensive experience.
We
have distinguished ourselves from other molders by being strategically
positioned to produce high quality parts from high performance
materials like PEEK,
Torlon, Aurum,
and the Fluoropolymer family, just to name a few.
OEM's
come to PPL looking for solutions to cost and performance
problems with their parts. PPL is proud to have solved many
of these problems. Due to confidentiality constraints, the
details may not be shared.
However,
there is one obsolete example we can discuss. The preferred
material was UHMWPE (for abrasion resistance). the cost of
making the parts conventionally was cost prohibitive. We developed
a blend of UHMWPE and autocrosslinkable high-density polyethylene
from Europe, which mimicked the abrasion resistance of UHMWPE,
but was very moldable into complex geometry. After the project
became obsolete, we marketed the product Polymer
Blend 05.
Basic
research also takes place at PPL. Currently, we are working
on low cost, non-carbon fiber materials, powdered metal /
ceramic injection molding, injection molding of PTFE, and
hot runner molding of high performance materials (presently
running
FEP/PFA, PPS
with hot runner).
